A 24-year-old Houston man drowned while swimming with friends Thursday afternoon in Manvel.
Multiple news reports say the man was swimming at Twin Lakes with a group of between 12 and 15 people.
While playing in the water at the man-made lake, the man attempted to swim from shore to a floating trampoline when he began to struggle in the water. Two friends jumped in and attempted to help him, but he slipped under the water and disappeared.
The Manvel police were called to the scene shortly after 4 p.m. Thursday and with the help of the Houston dive team were able to eventually recover the man’s body.
Early reports say the drowning was an accidental death.
Several news reports identified the man as 24-year-old Timothy Beaty. The city of Manvel confirmed the drowning on its Facebook page Thursday night, saying Beaty drowned about 100 feet from shore.
