A 2-year-old Alvin girl was killed after being mauled by her family dog Friday afternoon.
In a press release from the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office, Lt. Varon Snelgrove said the family returned from a shopping trip just before 5 p.m. and the little girl went outside to play with the dog. After a very short time, a family member went out to check on her and found the dog had attacked the child.
Brazoria County Sheriff’s deputies and Alvin Animal Control officers arrived at a home on County Road 424B (A.K.A. Morning Dove) at approximately 5 p.m. to find that the aggressive dog had severely mauled the girl.
The girl, identified as Denali Gonzalez was found to be unresponsive and was pronounced dead at the scene after failed attempts to revive her.
Her body was transported to the Galveston County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy.
The dog was identified as “a Kerr mix breed” upon initial inspection, however, the investigation is still ongoing. The dog was euthanized on scene, and its body was taken to a lab for analysis.
Snelgrove said no charges are expected to be filed, labeling the death a “tragic accident.”
A GoFundMe campaign has been set up for Gonzalez's funeral expenses at www. gofundme.com/denalis-funeral-expenses.
