A shooting on SH 35 in Alvin sent a 50 year-old father to the hospital and his 16 year-old son to the county jail.
On Thursday, Feb. 6, Brazoria County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a 9-1-1 call in the 8800 block of SH 35 in Alvin. The caller had said that there was a male with a gunshot wound.
The deputies arrived on scene and found a 50 year-old Liverpool man with a gunshot wound to the head. The shooting victim was taken by air ambulance to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. At the time of transport, the male was conscious but in serious condition, according to a statement from BCSO Lt. Varon Snelgrove.
So far the motive for, and the specific circumstances of, the shooting remains unclear. Investigators took the victim’s son, a 16 year-old male, into custody for the shooting.
The 16 year-old son is being charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Normally aggravated assault is a second-degree felony.
However, because the shooting caused serious bodily injury to a member of the 16 year-old’s family the alleged crime is enhanced to a first-degree felony. Despite the arrest, the investigation into the shooting is still active and ongoing.
