St. John the Baptist Catholic Church has a very long history in Alvin, having been a part of the community since the late 1800s.
Its members are dedicated to providing the funds it takes to run their large parish.
Each spring, a Church Festival is held to not only raise the funds, but also give members of the church, and the community as a whole, the chance to come together for a special event.
On Sunday, May 22, the annual festival will be held, as it has for so many years.
Probably the most popular part of the festival is the live auction where donated items from local merchants will be offered up to the highest bidder.
Not only will there be a barbecue dinner, Indonesian, Vietnamese and Mexican foods, there will also be plenty of games, sweet tasting desserts, such as funnel cakes and lots of games.
The ever popular BINGO came takes up a large part of the hall, where a card could result in a person winning a great deal of money.
A Farmers Market, with eggs, canned jellies and vegetables, and live bands, such as El Refle and Groupo Ambicion will all be parts of the festival.
The St. John the Baptist annual festival will open at 11 a.m. and close at 6 p.m.
Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy a fun day with family and friends, and support the church.
