Since January, one of the topics of conversation in Alvin has been “when will the new combination Fire and EMS station be open.” The Alvin Sun & Advertiser office has received the question by phone-in and walk-in guests alike. Finally, an answer is here. The long awaited day, here at last. On Aug. 31 at 8 p.m., the trucks put on quite a colorful display as they each awaited their turn. With all lights flashing, the ladder trucks, engines and pumper trucks could be seen backing into their new home on South St. Fire and EMS Station #1 houses both fire and emergency medical departments.  An official grand opening is in the works but as of Sept. 1, the date has not been set.
