At approximately 3:50 p.m., a Manvel police officer attempted to pull over a vehicle for reckless driving near the intersection of State Highway 6 and FM 1128. The driver pulled over onto a side road then drove off down Highway 6 as the officer attempted to approach.
After giving a short chase, the individual, later identified as a 34-year-old man who lives at the Twin Lakes RV Park, pulled into the RV park and ran on foot, leading to a one-hour search before he was located by a Pearland K9 unit.
Upon inspection, it was discovered that the vehicle the individual was driving was registered in the name of the 24-year-old man who drowned at Twin Lakes RV Park on June 20.
Drugs were later located inside of the vehicle.
It is unknown why or how the man was in possession of the vehicle, but officers said it is believed that he decided to take it after it was left unclaimed following the 24-year-old’s death last month.
“No one really knows how he got possession of the vehicle. We’re assuming he just took it since it was there,” Detective Evelyn Abundis of the Manvel Police Department said.
