Bobbie Jo Ellard Turpin, 73, of Manvel, passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2019, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Bobbie was born in St. Paul’s Hospital in Dallas, Texas, on February 18, 1946. Bobbie and her mother, Dortha Mae Ellard, moved to Alvin in 1948 and stayed with Dortha’s mom, Julia Collins, while Dortha worked at Pearson Chevrolet in Alvin. Bobbie and Dortha moved to Bryan in 1950 and moved back to Alvin in 1956. 

Bobbie has resided for 63 years in Brazoria County. She graduated from Alvin High School in 1964. In 1964, she started dating Jimmie Lee Turpin. They were married July 24, 1965, at South Park Baptist Church in Alvin. During their marriage, Bobbie and Jimmie had three children: Jimmie Lee “Lee” Turpin Jr. was born in 1967, Angela Mae Turpin was born in 1969 and Marcie Lyn Turpin was born in 1971.

Bobbie worked as a lab and x-ray technician for several local doctors and the Alvin Hospital. She was employed by Kelsey-Seybold Clinic in the 80’s as a contractor for NASA performing physicals on astronauts, FBI and CIA employees. She was an outdoors person; she loved her plants and gardens. Bobbie was an avid camper and visited most of the Texas State Parks in a family camper. She was an accomplished seamstress, excellent cook and a member of The Family of Faith Church in Manvel, Texas. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She loved animals of every kind and loved children, especially her grand- and great-grandchildren. Bobbie loved to see her family grow and was excited about her third great-grandchild due in September of this year. She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.

Bobbie leaves behind the following family: husband, Jimmie Lee Turpin Sr.; son, Jimmie Lee Turpin Jr. and Jennifer Lee Porter; daughter, Angela Mae Shaver and husband Ted Lloyd “Lloyd” Shaver Jr.; daughter, Marcie Lyn Heitzman; sisters, Julia Delores Mach and Aimee Leigh Cooper; brother-in-law, Mike Smith and wife Sandy; sister-in-law, Debbie Miglicco and husband Perry; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bobbie had 13 grandchildren: Kurtis Lee Turpin and wife Alejandra, Kristofer Lee Turpin and wife Payton Ashley, Trace Lee Turpin, Rachel Noel and Benjamin Jacob Stroud, Ted Lloyd “TL” Shaver, III, Bret Dean Heitzman, Glyn Foster Heitzman, Julia JoLyn Heitzman, Catherine Elizabeth Heitzman and Hunter Lee Heitzman (deceased).

Bobbie had three great-grandchildren: Kirra Lee Turpin, Kolten Wade Turpin and Lenora Everlee Turpin (due in September of this year).

Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents, Jack Foster Ellard Jr. and Dortha Mae Ellard; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Alfred and Jimmie Louise Zimmerhanzel; and her sister, Barbara Lou Barile.
