Ben Magness, Sr., age 90, of Alvin, Texas passed away Monday, February 7, 2011 at his residence. Ben was born on September 11, 1920 in Madisonville, Texas and was a resident of Alvin for 42 years. He was a member of South Park Baptist Church. He served in the United States Army during World War II and received a purple heart. Ben was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Margie Magness; and by his sisters: Lou Bradford and Olive Magness.
Ben was involved in many different associations through out his life. He was long standing member and president of the Alvin Noon Lions Club. He was a member and president of Alvin Area Chamber of Commerce. Ben was a Mason and Shriner. He served many years on the Alvin Independent School District Board. Ben was a Silver Beaver and Boy Scout. He was a life member of the Family Motor Coach Association. These are just a few of the many organizations that he was involved in.
Ben is survived by his wife, Nancy Magness; sons: Ben Magness, Jr. and wife, Kaye of Alvin, Texas, and Albert C. Magness and wife, Jan of Austin, Texas; 4 grandchildren: Cameron Magness and wife, Stephanie, Aaron Magness and fiancée, Amy Nelson and son, Konner, Bradley Magness and wife, Amber, and Andrew Magness; 2 great-grandchildren: Kylee Magness and Avery Magness; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, February 10, 2011 at Scott Funeral Home.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 11, 2011 at South Park Baptist Church with Dr. Bruce Peterson officiating. Interment followed at the City of Alvin Oak Park Cemetery, Alvin, Texas.
