Alfred Daniel Segelquist was born October 13, 1928, in Lissie, Texas, to John and Charlotte Segelquist. He passed away peacefully at home in Flatonia, Texas, on November 28, 2018, at the age of 90.
Daniel is survived by his loving wife, Frankie; sister, Eula Henderson; son, Billy Segelquist and wife Donna; stepson Virgil Hipp and wife Penny; and stepdaughter, Vicki O’Meara and husband Richard. He is also survived by granddaughter, Kelly Patek and husband Louis; great-granddaughters, Ruby and Ava Patek; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, too numerous to mention. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Charlotte.
He lived in Alvin until he retired and moved first to Fredricksburg and then finally to Flatonia where he spent the remainder of his life.
Daniel very proudly served his country in both the Army and Marines. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved spending time in the deer stand and telling stories of the one that got away. He loved to go offshore fishing and could down a huge breakfast and never get seasick no matter how rough the water was. He was a Master Carpenter and a lifelong member of the Carpenter’s Union. He loved woodworking in his shop producing many beautiful and unusual pieces.
He was a very active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Schulenburg, Texas.
One of Daniel’s greatest pleasures was being surrounded by his family and friends whom he loved intensely. Dan was a man who never met a stranger. He always had a smile on his face and a laugh in his voice, a welcoming hug and a story to tell. A more kind and generous man you will never meet. That smiling face will be missed so much by many, many people.
A memorial service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Schulenburg, Texas, on Saturday, December 8, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. with a small luncheon to follow.
