On the afternoon of July 2, 2019, Marla Hering of Alvin, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home after a brave battle with cancer. Her family was by her side when she drifted off to be with the Lord. She was 66.

Marla is survived by her husband, Paul Hering; and her beautiful children, John (Adina) Hering and Jana (Erik) Norton. Marla will forever be remembered by her grandchildren: Brittany (Trey) Pouncey, Wade Hering and Kaitlyn and Hunter Norton; by her sister, Cindy Vickers and her in-laws Sibyl Hering, Donna and Larry Lawrence and Sidney Hartsfield; and by her great-grandchildren: Kyliee, Kenziee and Kelsiee Pouncey. Marla will also be fondly remembered by her numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and dear friends.

Marla was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin Kennedy and Rachel Harrington along with her sister Sharon Hartsfield. She graduated salutatorian from High Island High School in 1971. She recently retired from the city of Alvin after 16 years of service. On the night of her passing we were blessed with a magnificent sunset, letting us know she was reunited with her loved ones.

Anyone who knew Marla, knew she was a loving and caring, kind-hearted soul that would go out of her way to help anyone and put everyone before herself. She had a passion for flamingos, scrapbooking, beaches, fishing and taking pictures of nature including animals, scenery and, of course, sunrises, sunsets and rainbows.  She had a vast collection of seashells and lighthouse figurines.  She adored her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her loving husband.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, July 20, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at The First Christian Church of Alvin, 1212 S. Durant St., Alvin, TX 77511, officiated by Rev. Loretta Smith.
