After a long battle with cancer, Cynthia Carol Wright (Cindy) of Alvin, TX, left this Earth on June 26, 2020 to be with her mother in Heaven. Cindy was born on March 30, 1959 in Honolulu, Hawaii T.H.
She was born to parents Haskell Floyd (Buck) Vanderford and the late Joanne Carol Ozment Vanderford. Cindy was very proud to have been born in Hawaii while her parents were stationed with the USAF at Wheeler AFB. She often claimed that she was a Hawaiian because she was born there; who could dispute that claim? She was born before Hawaii was admitted as a U.S. State. Cindy was, playfully, referred to as an Air Force “brat” because she was born into an Air Force family. She travelled with her family to various bases in the states and was, in addition to stateside bases, in elementary school in Tokyo, Japan. She graduated from Oliver Wendell Holmes High School in San Antonio, Texas and graduated college from Abilene Christian University where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Education. She taught for over 25 years in San Antonio, Stafford, and Alvin. Those years were precious to her until cancer took its toll. She loved planning parties for her daughters and was always the first to volunteer as a “dance mom” or “gymnastics mom.” Cindy loved to take RV road trips with her husband and daughters, especially to Baylor football games, her husband and daughter’s alma mater. She planned the best tailgates and was such a gracious hostess. She was a big fan of Chuck Norris and loved watching reruns of Walker, Texas Ranger. Her favorite singer was George Strait, and she went to his concerts every chance she had.
Cindy leaves behind her beloved husband, Dr. W. Clay Wright; daughter, Cayla Carol Welsh and husband James, and daughter, Christy Jo Barr and husband Douglas. She also leaves behind her precious twin granddaughters, Milly Kait and Molly Belle Welsh; step-granddaughter, Alexis Barr, and step-grandson, Patrick Barr. Also, her father, H. Floyd Vanderford and wife Sandra; sister, Wanda Gay Myers and husband Randy; sister, Sheryl Kim Williams and husband Tim; step-sister, Cindy Cegielski and husband Kevin, and step-sister, Brenda Schibi and husband Jody. Also, her aunt, Sharon Herbert and husband Ron; uncle, Rev. Billy H Vanderford and wife Pat, and uncle, Frank David Vanderford. They are left behind to help this world become a better place for her grandchildren to grow up in. Her “granddogs,” Tinker Bell and Boo, held a special place in her heart and brought her so much joy.
Preceding in death were her beloved mother Joanne Carol Vanderford and parents-in-law Billie Henry and Robbie Jo Wright. Cindy also leaves a very blessed friend, Jessica Freeman. Jessica is the “salt of the earth” and no better friend could ever be found.
The family wishes to thank her doctors and nurses at MD Anderson Cancer Center who genuinely cared for her and treated her like family. Visitation was held Wednesday, July 1, 2020 from 6pm-8pm at Scott Funeral Home. Funeral service was on Thursday, July 2, 2020 at 10am at Scott Funeral Home with Jody Schibi officiating. Flowers were welcome; memorial contributions may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center.
