William Clyde Shepherd, Sr., age 90, passed away April 30, 2020 in Houston, Texas. Clyde was born on July 30, 1929 in Dallas, Texas, where he grew up and graduated high school. While he served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, his ship patrolled the Gulf of Tonkin, went through typhoons, was bombarded by enemy fire, and was hit once. After his military service, Clyde earned his accounting degree from the University of Houston and moved to Alvin, Texas, where he resided for over 60 years. After working as an accountant and pursuing a CPA license, he taught business accounting at Alvin Community College for a few years; but he is best known for his firm -- Wm. Clyde Shepherd, Certified Public Accountant -- which served

Alvin and surrounding communities for 53 years until he retired from business in 2012 at age 83.

Clyde was a Christian and a member of Grace Episcopal Church. He was known for his twinkling blue eyes and sweet smile, his quick and funny wit, his kind and gentle spirit, and his big, compassionate heart. He cried during sad movies and enjoyed reading science fiction and westerns. His special pride was his membership and service in the Alvin Rotary Club, during which he earned 4 Paul Harris Fellowship Awards and the Ed Webb Service Award, and achieved 47 consecutive years of perfect attendance. As Clyde retired from Alvin Rotary Club, the organization created in his honor the Clyde Shepherd Rotary Scholarship to be awarded to an AISD graduating senior each year.

Clyde continued to bring his charm and wit to weekly meetings of an Alzheimer’s organization, The Gathering Place, until further illness stopped his attendance. He so enjoyed the love and attention the GP volunteers showed their guests.

Clyde was preceded in death by his parents -- Benjamin Franklin Shepherd and Annie Mae Foshee Shepherd; sister -- Beulah Mae Shepherd Webb and husband Bruce; brothers -- Ben Shepherd and wife Margie, Richard Shepherd and wife Norma. Clyde is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Joy Holloway Shepherd; daughters -- Peggy Shepherd Williams, Darlene Nelson Day (Robert), Tobye Rae Nelson (Laurel Fain);    son -- William Shepherd, Jr.; grandchildren -- Angelique Bryant (Charles), Garth Williams, Jeffrey Williams (Destiny), Ash Day (Tiffany), Rachel Bellington (Ryan), Lacie Justice, Jared Justice; great grandchildren -- Jonathon Williams, Matthew Williams, Randy Thurston, Eliza Williams, Aubrie Williams, Ryley Williams, Linley Day, Violet Justice, Callen Day, Presley Justice; along with numerous other relatives and friends.

Arrangements will be under the direction of the Scott Family. There will be a memorial service on a future date at Grace Episcopal Church, 200 W. Lang St., Alvin, TX.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Alvin Rotary Club (P.O. Box 1345, Alvin, TX 77512), designated to one of the following: Alvin Rotary Scholarship Program or Alvin Rotary Club Foundation; or to Brazoria County Gathering Place Interfaith Ministries, Inc. (P.O. Box 2050, Angleton, TX 77516); or to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund (34 Washington St., Suite 200, Wellesley Hills, MA 02481).
