In the Dec. 20 edition of the Alvin Advertiser, we made a big mistake in a Walmart ad wishing the community a Merry Christmas.

I would like to personally apologize to Walmart. For many years, Walmart has been my favorite store in the world. I would never, and the Alvin Advertiser would never, intentionally try to harm a business that is valuable to Alvin and to the nation.

In this specific ad, a member of my team was looking for a logo when she built the ad. She went online and used a search engine to look for a Walmart logo that was the right color and size. When she found one, she pulled it off without reading it thoroughly and built the ad around it.

It was later proofed by multiple others on our team, and they, too, did not notice the fake logo that closely resembled the real Walmart logo.

The mistake was ours and we own it. No one else is to blame. We have taken steps to ensure it never happens again. We apologize again to Walmart, and we will work hard to make amends to both Walmart and the Alvin community.
