Sammy Haynes never thought the day would come.

Manvel’s Sammy Haynes and Iowa Colony’s Ashtyn Lewis both delivered history-making performances at the state track and field meet last weekend in Austin, while the Shadow Creek girls repeated as state champions in the 4X400 relay.

MANVEL - While Dickinson managed to hang with heavily favored Alvin for most of Friday’s Class 6A Bi-District Softball Playoff, the Lady Yellowjacket bats ultimately became too much for the Lady Gators to handle.

Cooper Williams entered Alvin’s key 23-6A Baseball showdown Tuesday with Dawson having not pitched in the last two weeks due to the Yellowjackets going through the soft part of their schedule.

PEARLAND - For the second time in as many 23-6A softball meetings this season, the Alvin Lady Yellowjackets and Dawson Eagles combined to leave a staggering 18 runners on base.

MANVEL - While the brutal field in 18-5A has provided the Manvel Mavericks with more than its share of setbacks in 2023, the Mavs put all that frustration behind them by coming away with a 3-2 home triumph over Texas City, Tuesday night.

IOWA COLONY - The Iowa Colony Pioneers spotted La Marque an early lead and rolled to a 20-4 home triumph over the Cougars, Tuesday night in 26-4A Baseball action.

Alvin Community Baseball stayed on a roll, taking three of four games from San Jacinto North College in Region XIV Baseball action last weekend and then picking up a dramatic walk-off here against Angelina College on March 27.

Alvin High School didn’t have to look far for its new head volleyball coach with  the school district naming Manvel Lady Mavericks’ assistant Amanda Tacquard to take the Lady Yellowjackets’ helm, March 22.

PEARLAND - After watching Willowridge battle them almost toe to toe for most of the first half in Friday’s area round girls’ playoff hoop match-up, the Manvel Lady Mavericks’ smothering defense took over the rest of the way to punch their ticket to the regional quarterfinals this week.

IOWA COLONY - While the Iowa Colony Boys’ Basketball first-year underclassman program has caught the attention of many around the state with their surprising rise in the state rankings, the Lady Pioneers are starting to make their own mark in the 26-4A race as well.

The Alvin Lady Yellowjackets and Manvel Lady Mavericks both delivered memorable playoff runs in the UIL volleyball playoffs and also combined to land nine selections to the 2022 Blue Bell/Texas Sportswriters Association’s All-State Volleyball teams.

IOWA COLONY - While struggling to find the right tempo throughout Tuesday’s 26-4A hoop showdown with La Marque, the state ranked Iowa Colony Pioneers made use of the few clicking minutes they had to send the Cougars reeling.

The Manvel Lady Maverick outside hitter duo of Devyn Lewis and Lyric Jordan were both named to the Texas Girls Coaches Association’s  Class 5A All-State Volleyball team for the second straight season.

Defensive end Theo Randle was named the most valuable player to highlight the area finalist Shadow Creek Sharks’ league high 27 selections to the All-District 23-6A Football team, while the Alvin Yellowjackets received 13 picks overall.

The area finalist Manvel Mavericks received an impressive 23 player selections to the All-District 10-5A Division I Football team.

Sophomore outside hitter Kaylee Preston was named the newcomer of the year in 26-4A to highlight the Iowa Colony Lady Pioneers’ six selections to the all-district volleyball team.

First-year hoop program Iowa Colony continued their torrid start to the 2022-23 season with three victories at the Barbers Hill Gulf Coast Classic last weekend and a 58-37 triumph over the Alvin Yellowjackets, Nov. 29 at the AHS Competition Gym.

Fresh off delivering another deep playoff run, the Region III-5A Semifinalist Manvel Lady Mavericks dominated the All-District 18-5A Volleyball selections with 12 players chosen.

Senior outside hitter Ana Garza was named the offensive player of the year to highlight the Region III-6A Area Playoff Finalist Alvin Lady Yellowjackets’ eight selections to the All-District 23-6A Volleyball team.

IOWA COLONY - Quarterback Duke Butler came out firing and so did his Shadow Creek Shark teammates on all cylinders, crushing Brazoswood 77-7 in the Class 6A Division 2 Bi-District Football Playoffs, Thursday night at AISD Freedom Field.

ALIEF - Alvin picked up its second straight victory at Crump Stadium in the last six days.

IOWA COLONY - Battling a gritty Fulshear squad along with a gusty crosswind inside AISD’s Freedom Field, the Manvel Mavericks’ initial bid to clinch a playoff spot fell just a tad short, Friday night.

SANTA FE - Fresh off clinching the 18-5A volleyball crown the previous weekend, the playoff bound Manvel Lady Mavericks completed a perfect run through the district with a 25-13, 25-20 and 25-16 sweep over Santa Fe, Tuesday night in the regular season finale for both teams.

IOWA COLONY - A fast start by their offense was complemented by a finishing defensive touch to put Shadow Creek all alone atop the 23-6A Football standings, Friday night.

While a lightening delay forced the Manvel-Foster clash to be moved to Saturday, the Mavericks made their own electricity worth the wait.

IOWA COLONY - Kamal Henry hit Landrew Ward with a touchdown pass and then dashed in with the walk-off two-point conversion run, as Iowa Colony rallied to stun Navasota, 35-34 in overtime, Friday night at AISD Freedom Field.

Making their UIL postseason debuts, Alvin High School Water Polo teams both rolled to easy victories in the first round of the Region 2 playoffs, Monday at the Lenny Garcia Natatorium.
