The hosting Alvin High School Powerlifting Girls captured top honors at the Region IV Division 1 meet on March 3.

Alvin compiled a meet best 58 points followed by second place Conroe’s 20 point total and Brazoswood was third with 18 points.

The region title was the third straight for the Lady Jackets, who also broke nine individual records during the meet.

First places went to Camila Recendez in the 148 class, Trinity Ruiz in the 220 class, Maya Ruiz in the 259+ class, Andrea Recendez in the 105 class, Eliana Hernandez in the 259 class and Isabella Recendez in the 114 class, while second places included Hannah Casas in the 123 class, Sarah Green in the 198 class, Jennifer Deleon in the 220 class and Laci Ruiz in the 259+ class and third places went to Kaylyn Tucker in the 97 class and Dominique Delarosa in the 132 class.

The above individuals all earned state qualifying berths. The regional records were set as follows: Casas, 175 lb bench press; Delarosa, 180 lb bench press; Camila Recendez, 380 lb squat; Green, 415 lb deadlift; Trinity Ruiz, 485 lb squat and 1075 lb total; and Hernandez, 470 lb squat, 390 lb deadlift and 1085 total.

Eboni Watkins was also fourth in the 259 class, while ninth places went to Jennifer Garcia in the 114 class and Nathaly Ramirez in the 165 class and Clarissa Cedillo (114) and Christabel Bass (165) finished 12 in their respective weight classes.

The 2021 THSWPA State Championships will be held will be held March 17-18 at the America Bank Center Arena in Corpus Christi.
