Area girls’ hoop programs Alvin and Shadow Creek combined for 11 player selections to the All-District 23-6A Girls’ Basketball team.

R’mani Taylor earned offensive player of the year honors for the regional quarterfinalist Lady Sharks and LaToya Micheaux was tabbed as the league’s top coach.

Maddy Kincaide was named to the first team for the Lady Jackets, while Brooklyn Brown and Ace Edmond also gained first team berths for Shadow Creek.

Lady Jackets’ Katy Barajas and Cheynne George both collected spots on the second team as did Lady Shark Nyla Price.

Honorable mention status went to Emily Garza and Dana Juarez, of Alvin and to Kyndall Drones and Alana Trail from Shadow Creek.

Picking up all-district academic honors for the Lady Jackets was Kanoe Cleland and Kandace Kazmiroski and Edmond from Shadow Creek.

Other first team picks went to Ahnia Bolton (Alief Taylor), Aryelle Stevens (Pearland), Jasmeen Lemons (Alief Hastings), Kennedy Ford (Dawson), Mary Falekulo (Alief Elsik) and Tiahna Dory (Alief Taylor).

Pearland’s Rylee Gray collected most valuable player honors, while Taylor’s Alyssa Prier and Melinda Winston, of Hastings, shared the defensive award and Taylor’s Nataliyah Gray was tabbed as the newcomer of the year.

Rounding out the second team was Aaliyah Noil (Hastings), Cyndol Davis (Taylor), Domitila Amugu (Hastings), Jordan Skaggs (Dawson), La`niah Thornton (Pearland), Nemiah Renfro (Elsik) and Paige Bonner (Pearland).

The Lady Sharks went 29-5 overall and shared the 23-6A title with Pearland. Shadow Creek collected playoff victories over Clear Creek (52-30) and Dobie (43-38).

Shadow Creek rallied from a 22-1 start by the Lady Longhorns and a 22-8 halftime deficit in the area round.Taylor sparked the comeback with 11 third quarter points to cut to deficit to 29-23 entering the fourth quarter and later nailed the go-ahead three-point bucket to put the Lady Sharks ahead for the first time at 30-29 midway through the period.
