Despite a double double by Caleb Elsey with 18 points and 10 rebounds, the Yellowjackets watched a 10-point fourth quarter lead slip away in a 58- 55 heart breaking overtime defeat to Clear Falls here, Friday night.
Alvin led 41-31 early in the final period of regulation, only to watch the Knights erupt for 14 straight points and outscore the Jackets by an 18-10 margin overall to force the extra period.
D.J Hill (14 points, 6 rebounds) put Alvin back in front at 50-49 with a free throw to start OT and added a field goal to tie things at 52-52 a few moments later, but Camron Davis’ three-pointer gave Falls the upper hand for good. The Jackets had a chance to send the contest into a second overtime, but Kobe Bailey’s heave fell short at the buzzer.
The Jackets jumped to a 11-7 lead following the initial eight minutes behind a pair of Elsey buckets and Damian Rebolledo’s trey. Three-pointers by Bailey and Rebolledo helped Alvin increase their advantage to 24-19 at the break, while six points apiece by Elsey and Travis Phelps stretched the lead to eight at 39-31 heading into the fourth.
Elsey then scored inside to give Alvin a double digit cushion, but Davis’ trey sparked the 14-0 run for Falls.
