The Alvin Lady Yellowjackets tuned up for the upcoming Class 6A Softball Playoffs with a 11-0 run-ruled victory over Dickinson here Thursday night after opening the week with a 7-0 triumph against Clear Brook on April 16 in Friendswood.
Alvin (27-5 overall), who finished the 24-6A slate unbeaten with a perfect 12-0 mark, were led by the three-hit shutout pitching of Jodie Aguirre and three RBI’s by Mary Pourcio, while Dickinson also hurt its own cause with seven errors.
Pourcio belted a two-run triple in the second inning to increase the margin to 7-0 and pinch hitter Isabelle Farmer drove in a pair of runs with a fourth-inning double.
Clarissa Barron (3-for-3) and Victoria Valdez also chipped in an RBI apiece in the contest. Aguirre fanned six and didn’t allow a walk in picking up the win in the circle.
Alvin meets Brazoswood in the best-of-three bi-district playoff series later this week. Game one will be played April 25 in Alvin at 6:30 p.m., while the second game will be played at Brazoswood High School on April 26 at 6:30 p.m. A third and deciding game would be played on April 27 at Ridge Point High School at 11 a.m. (if necessary).
In the win over Brook, Aguirre took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and allowed only Haley Lisbony’s single to open the frame. Aguirre stuck out 13 and surrendered just two walks to pick up the win in the circle.
Grace Coffelt gave Aguirre the only support she would need with a two-run double in the first, while Pourcio’s RBI triple in the third made it 3-0. Barron and Aguirre both delivered two-run singles in the fifth to increase the margin to 7-0.
Shae Montemayor went 3-for-4 at the plate to pace the 11-hit attack by the Alvin bats, while Pourcio and Aguirre added two hits apiece.
In other area action from last week, the playoff-bound Manvel Lady Mavericks secured the third seed in the 24-5A standings with a 5-3 home victory over Foster on April 15 and a 17-2 rout of Fort Bend Marshall April 16 in Missouri City.
Riley Bennett belted a two-run double in the third to key the win over Foster, while Addison Greak went the distance in the circle to pick up the pitching win.
Manvel then blew out Hightower by a 16-1 at home on Thursday to close the regular season. Bri Scott and Brittany Hood drove in three runs apiece, while Bennett produced three hits at the plate, as well.
Both Manvel (20-11 overall, 12-4) and Shadow Creek (20-9 overall, 11-5) will also be competing in the bi-district playoffs later this week with this being the Lady Sharks’ first trip ever to the postseason.
Shadow Creek plays Milby in a one-game 5A bi-district playoff on April 25 at Barnett Stadium in Houston at 7 p.m., while Manvel hosts Houston Austin in a one-game 5A bi-district playoff on April 26 at 6 p.m.
The Lady Sharks cruised past Willowridge 21-0 in their regular season finale Thursday in Houston. Jillian Gutierrez led the way with four hits and five RBI’s, while Aniyah Burns added four hits and three RBI’s and Celeste Luna provided three hits and four RBI’s.
