Three area players were named to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Association’s Class 5A All-Region III team.

Manvel Lady Mavericks’ senior post Ashlynn Freeman was joined on the squad by Shadow Creek sophomore guard R`mani Taylor and Lady Sharks’ junior forward Bre`yon White.

The Lady Sharks went a school record 32-5 and won their first ever district crown with a perfect 16-0 mark. Shadow Creek posted playoff wins over Houston Austin (98-20), Galveston Ball (71-40) and Richmond Foster (55-49). Shadow Creek also advanced to the regional tournament for the first time in school history.

Advancing to the postseason for the ninth straight year, the 22-13 Lady Mavs finished third in 24-5A and posted playoff victories over Northside (75-21) and Friendswood (62-44).

Other players named to the TABC’s all-region list included Laila Blair (Foster), Alicia Blanton (Foster), Dalanna Carter (Barbers Hill), Tori Garza (New Caney), Rebekah Hailey (College Station), McCall Hampton (Georgetown), Shelby Hayes (Cedar Park), Na`Layjah Johnson (College Station), Kamryn Jones (Magnolia West), Nicole Left (Cedar Park), Destini Lombard (Hightower), Gisella Maul (Cedar Park), Nicole Nash (Friendswood), Kamari Portale (Magnolia West), Mia Rivers (College Station), Morgan Strawder (Hightower) and Deondra Young (Bryan Rudder).

Taylor shared most valuable player honors in 24-5A with Hightower’s Lombardi, while White earned defensive player of the year honors.
