The Manvel Mavericks jumped to a two touchdown lead behind a pair of Gabriel Larry to Jalen Walthall touchdown passes and never looked back in blanking Beaumont United 63-0 in the Class 5A Division I Bi-District Football Playoffs Friday night at AISD Freedom Field.
The victory advances the Mavs (7-1) into the area round later this week, where they will play either Dripping Springs or Georgetown at a site and time to be determined.
Larry found Walthall from 29 yards out four minutes into the contest, while the pair combined for a 10-yard hook-up to ignite a 28-point second quarter, which gave Manvel a comfortable 35-0 cushion at the break.
After Larry fired a 54-yard scoring strike to Kyler Williams, the senior quarterback went in on a one-yard keeper and Tyree Scranton returned an interception 30 yards for the five-touchdown lead.
Second half touchdowns for the Mavs featured Williams’ 39-yard TD pass to Andre Thompson, Ty Harris’ 14-yard run, LeMarkus Owens’ 32-yard gallop and Kaiden Smith’s 10-yard QB keeper.
Larry completed 6 of 11 passes for 103 yards and two TD’s. Owens paced the Mavs on the ground with 90 yards on two carries and one TD and Harris added 76 yards on eight attempts and one TD. Walthall had three catches for 54 yards and two TD’s.
Corey Swiney also had an interception to set up a Manvel TD.
