Alvin Community College collected a four-game sweep over Galveston College in Region XIV baseball action last weekend. 

The Dolphins won the first two games by 7-2 and 6-3 scores Thursday in Galveston. 

JC Correa and Jorge Gutierrez drove in two runs apiece in the opener with Gurierrez also going deep. Cole Pletka delivered six strong innings on the mound for ACC in the second affair and Bryce Holmes provided a pair of runs batted in. 

The series moved to Phillips Field for games three and four in Alvin with the Dolphins capturing 11-1 and 12-2 victories to gain the sweep. 

Holmes and Jaylin Turner both belted home runs in the contest, while Holmes and Javeon Cody combined for seven RBI's. Tyler Hix also went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate. 

Sean Kinel blasted a three-run homer and drove in five runs in the series finale, while Hix and Cody added two-run blasts. 

ACC next plays at Laredo April 13-14. 

Labauve qualifies for state gymnastics meet - AHS senior gymnast Heather Labauve has earned a qualifying berth to the state meet in Rockwall April 26-28. 

Competing at the regional meet in College Station, April 3-4, Labauve placed eighth on vault, ninth on the balance beam and fifth on floor. Alvin coach Fawn Mills is in her eighth year at the school and has had a gymnast qualify for the state meet every year she’s been here. 

Senior Clay Geiling also competed for Alvin on the boys’ side and finished in 19th place overall. 

Shark tennis team shines at district - The hosting Shadow Creek Sharks turned in several top performances at the 23-5A meet April 3-4 in Pearland. 

Gerardo Palencia won in boys’ singles, while Juliana Sierra and Kris Sherrill finished first and second, respectively, in girls’ singles and the girls doubles duo of Chelsea Saya-Ang/ Abi Husain captured first place honors, as well. 

Rosann Mundattuchundayil and Murielle Tio also claimed runner-up honors in girls’ doubles competition.
