The Manvel Lady Mavericks are headed for a state-ranked showdown with Barbers Hill in the Class 5A Volleyball Region Quarterfinals, Tuesday at Delmar Field House in Houston at 6 p.m.

Manvel (34-11) enters the contest ranked 19th in the state, while Hill (39-5) is fifth. The teams met during the preseason at the Dickinson Tourney with the Lady Mavs winning the tourney’s championship match, Aug. 21 by a two sets to one margin.

The Lady Mavs have collected postseason victories over Port Neches-Groves (25-12, 25-14, 25-22), Nov. 1 in Baytown and Hightower (25-5, 25-12, 25-9), Friday . The victory over Hightower was the 18th straight for the Manvel girls.

In the win over Hightower at Shadow Creek High School in Pearland, match totals included Deyn Lewis with nine kills and 13 digs, Mary Kate Preston with six kills and five blocks, Kenedy Masie with 12 assists, five kills and two aces, Amari Jackson with seven blocks and three kills Bea Angeles with seven digs and two aces and Brooke Wight with seven digs and two aces.

Match totals against PNG included Preston with eight kills and five blocks, Lewis with six kills and nine digs, Massie with 17 assists and four aces, Jayden Walker with nine assists and Angeles and Morgan Sellers with seven digs apiece.

Both Alvin and Shadow Creek saw their seasons come to an end in the bi-district round last week.

The Lady Yellowjackets (18-23) dropped a 20-25, 15-25 and 9-25 decision to Clear Creek, Nov. 2 in Friendswood, while the Lady Sharks (26-18 overall) fell by 15-25, 18-25 and 19 scores to Clear Springs, Nov. 2 in Alvin.

Match totals for Alvin included Mackenzie Strban with seven kills, Ana Garza with six kills, Korrigan Wright with eight assists and Janey Anderson with six assists and nine digs.

Match totals for the Lady Sharks included Mackenzie Collins with eight kills and Aria Rideaux with six kills, while Deja Benjamin joined Alana Burks and Dominique Phills with five kills apiece. Sarah Du dished out 16 assists, while Ella Hestand added 16 digs and Jadyn Murry chipped in 11 assists.
