The Alvin Yellowjackets dropped a 35-21 decision to Dawson, Friday night at Pearland ISD Stadium in 23-6A Football action.

The Eagles, who stayed within striking distance of co-leaders Manvel and Pearland in the district standings, struck for a pair of first quarter touchdowns. Bryce Burgess went in from seven yards out on the opening series and after Dawson recovered an onside kick, Tony Roberson provided a 13-yard run to make it 14-0 with 5:08 remaining in the opening period.

Daniel Blume got Alvin (4-4 overall, 2-3) on the board with a 18-yard dash in the second quarter and Caleb Reed added the extra point to cut the gap to 14-7 with 10:05 left.

However, the Eagles scored a pair of touchdowns later in the period to take a three-score cushion into the locker room. Collin Johnson fired a 38-yard TD toss to Ashton Stroman and Burgess delivered a 20-yard scoring run.

Jacket touchdowns in the second half featured quarterback Trevor Bockel scoring on an 11-yard keeper in the third period and Jordan Torres crossing the goaline during the game’s final minutes on a 16-yard run.

Alvin compiled 320 yards of total offense. Cole Erndt, who also produced a two-point conversion run, paced the rushing attack with  86 yards on 11 carries. Torres added 63 yards on eight carries and Bockel chipped in 61 yards on 14 carries.

The Jackets next host Strake Jesuit, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m.

Shadow Creek 49 Elsik 0 - The Sharks cruised Friday at Freedom Field to set up this week’s first-place showdown with co-leading Pearland, Oct. 29 at Pearland ISD Stadium.

Shadow Creek (6-2 overall, 5-0), who won its sixth straight, built a commanding 28-0 lead at intermission.

Kickoff for the Sharks’ game at Pearland is 7 p.m.
