The Alvin Lady Yellowjackets captured the softball tourney crown at the NFCA Texas High School Lead-off Classic, which was hosted by Bryan and College Station last weekend.

Alvin edged Brazoswood by a 3-1 count in the championship game Saturday evening to complete a six-game sweep of three-day tourney, which featured a 64-team field. Jodie Aguirre picked up the win in the circle with Victoria Valdez, Reagan Jones and Khori Bolton driving in  the runs.

Outscoring their opposition by a staggering 41-5 margin during the three-day tournament, the Lady Jackets also posted victories over Denison (7-0), Boerne (4-0), Leander (7-3), College Station (7-0) and Fort Bend Christian (13-1).

Aguirre also fanned 11 in the tourney opener against Denison, while other Alvin NFCA highlights included Valdez with a two-run homer against Leander, Kaitlyn Kincaide with a three-run inside the park homer against College Station and Mary Pourcio and Jordon Frederic with three RBI’s apiece against FBC.

Aguirre fired 41/2 innings of four-hit ball and battery mate Victoria Valdez drove in five runs, as the Alvin Lady Yellowjackets blanked the Manvel Lady Mavericks in a season-opening softball battle between the AISD neighbors on Feb. 17 at Alvin High School.
