Area softball pitchers Jodie Aguirre (Alvin High School) and Sydney Macias (Shadow Creek High School) were both honored by BSN Sports and Under Armour as their respective high school graduation award winners of the 2020 Women of Will award.

Aguirre, the valedictorian for AHS, led the nation in victories and was coming off All-American and all-state honors in 2019. Alvin started the season with a 20-1 record and was ranked No. 2 in the state when play was halted in March.

Macias helped the Lady Sharks get off to their best start in team history with a 14-2 start.

Shadow Creek Soccer players honored - A total of 16 players from the Shadow Creek high school soccer programs received all state academic honors.

Lady Sharks receiving all-state academic recognition from the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches included Regan Forrest, Jade Dia, Gia Lopreto and Carolina Martinez.

The Texas High School Coaches’ Association also announced all-state academic honors for SC boys Raul Alonso, Andrew Asdel, Phillip Barrero, Beau Burns, Bryant Castillo, Andres Garcia, Caleb Geer, Stephen Mgbemeje, Aarya Patel, Liam Ramsey, Ivann Romero and Ian Stewart.

All-district soccer boys’ selections for Alvin (24-6A), Manvel (24-5A) and Shadow Creek (24-5A) will be published in the May 3 Alvin Sun and May 6th Alvin Advertiser editions, while the girls’ all-district picks will be published in the May 10 and May 13 editions. Academic all-district and other academic all-state selections will be included as well.
